Giving Thanks in All Things

The Bible is truly living and active. There is something the Lord has for us to learn and grow from each day as we read His Word.

I've been going through Galatians and now Ephesians. They are packed with encouragement, wisdom and instruction. I came across a verse I've read many times before, but this time it just stuck out. (Don't you love when God does that?)

Ephesians 5:20 "Giving thanks always for ALL things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

What an absolutely beautiful verse! In the verses before, Paul is explaining how we need to be walking in the Light of the Lord and not making foolish decisions as the world would have us to do. He then encourages us to speak to each other with "psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." Did you do that yet today? What a privilege and joy we have in doing so!

But that following verse (verse 20) just jumped out at me. I am to give thanks ALWAYS...for ALL THINGS! Wow....and who gets the praise and glory when I do this? God does. Jesus Christ my Lord does. I can thank Him for being my rock through something hard. I can thank Him for sustaining me. I can thank Him for never leaving me.

I was so gripped by this passage and felt led to share it with you today. I want to be that kind of person. Giving thanks in all things....all the time. No matter what. How is that possible?
1. I know it is because the Lord tells me to do it!
2. I know I can through His strength, because He deserves the praise and thanksgiving!

So whatever may come today...this week...or this month....my Bible says "Be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might." (Ephesians 6:10) Not by my strength, but His.
